Cult of Chaos – Contest of Cthulhu

Once of the things that makes hobbies great is the community that surrounds them. It’s even better when that community has an official presence in it. Chaosium has achieved that with it’s Cult of Chaos Organised Play. Ostensibly it is for Game Masters who run demonstration games and games at events, but anyone can join if they want. I’m a part of it. It’s free, anyway.

But the main reason I’ve written this brief article is to let everyone know about a competition that has just started, only for members of the Cult of Chaos. It is the ‘Call of Cthulhu convention scenario contest for the 2020 season.’ They run this competition every year to find a full Call of Cthulhu RPG convention scenario with a running time of 3.5 to 4 hours maximum, playable by up to six players.

What to do to join:

  • First of all, sign up for Cult of Chaos, if you haven’t already.
  • Next, head over to BRP Central, Chaosium’s forum, and log into the Cult of Chaos section. You will need your special password that will have been sent to you when you signed up for Cult of Chaos.
  • In that section, there will be a sub-forum for the contest.
  • Submit your pitch in there, no more than 300 words. This has to be done before December 3rd.
  • A couple of people will be chosen from those initial pitches, and will have to provide a draft by December 31st.
  • The full scenario will have to be submitted by January 21st, next year.

Full details, plus a few terms and conditions can be found in the initial post in the forum above.

I would love to be able to join this, but the way I write my own scenarios is not conducive to this sort of thing. I write only basic outlines and build on those as I progress throughout the sessions. These scenarios would need a lot more detail in them, as they would be run by many other people.

If you think you are up to the task, then I whole-heartedly recommend making a submission. This could be the beginning of something great.
