BTGN Android: Netrunner “Ashes” Coverage. Saturday June 8th 2013

NetrunnerSaturday June 8th saw some of the best Android: Netrunner players Brisbane has to offer converge on Gauntlet for BTGN’s first sponsored event – The  BTGN Android: Netrunner “Ashes”.  Hopefully the first in an ongoing series of Netrunner tournaments occurring in Brisbane every few months.

Each participant was fighting not only for the glory of their own personal victory but also for the right to take home the “Ashes” trophy back to their designated home store.

The Tournament in Action

The event saw a good turn out with the store looking quite full on the day with Ace Comics & Games Annerley, Presents of Mind and Gauntlet with the strongest representation.  The Presents of Mind lads even had their own shirts!  Everyone was keen and excited and the atmosphere was good.

The Tournament was a four round affair and the Tournament Manager software from FFG was more than up to the job with pairing and score tracking.  The issue of points for a bye was raised and sadly this is something that FFG has not officially commented on yet.  For this Tournament we where awarding 3 Points, for future tournaments this is something (Along with any other vague rulings) that will be announced well before the event takes place.

“Irish” from Team Gauntlet

We had the lovely Kasey on site from BTGN interviewing a number of people, which you can see in the video below along with a full recording of the match between the runner-up and tournament winner.  Sadly I couldn’t organise another BTGN to commentate the video with me, and I probably made a few little glitches, but hopefully you find it enjoyable none-the-less.  It’s been an enormous learning process, not only for myself, but the entire BTGN team.

Ultimately the Ace Comics team proved too strong and dominated the top of the leader board.  Andru took first place and scored himself a sealed copy of the Android: Netrunner core set along with the “Ashes” trophy to take back to Ace Comics.  The remaining top 10 players snagged some full art cards, plastic credit tokens and Marcus took home a Android: Netrunner storage box.

I think you might agree that the video is a little rough around the edges, but for our first video coverage of an event I’m rather proud of it.  Forgive us our nervousness and slip-ups.  Any comments or feedback?  Post below and let us know so that we can make it even better for the next one.  You can find a complete deck list for both Marcus and Andru at the bottom of this article.

Andru – BTGN Android: Netrunner “Ashes” Winner

From everyone at BTGN we’d like to thank everybody for coming out and making our first sanctioned event a special one.  Congratulations to Andru and the Ace team on their convincing win!  We hope to bring you another Android: Netrunner “Ashes” event in a few months time.
