Next is now! The new Dungeons & Dragons

Wizards of the Coast, after all the public testing and a multitude of Q&A sessions, have finally released some finalised rules for the next generation of Dungeons & Dragons.

The Basic Rules, as WotC are calling them, are quite a substantial chunk of rules, a PDF compromising over 100 pages. It will take you from level 1 all the way up to level 20. There are some limitations though, of course, there are only the ‘classic’ 4 classes to choose from; Fighter, Cleric, Rogue and Wizard. There are also only 4 races; Human, Elf, Dwarf and Halfling. There are also some backgrounds, character sheets and 120 spells.

If you want to give it a go, you will have to come up with your own adventure and create your own characters, neither of those are included. The reasoning for this is that the D&D Starter Set (which goes on sale July 15th) needs to have something else in it beyond those basic rules. That will come with absolutely everything you need for a game, straight out the box.

The absolute best thing about this intro to new D&D? It’s FREE! How can you not like that?

There are two versions you can download, the standard or the printer friendly, both in PDF format, and both you can get from here. So go there, get the rules, shanghai some friends together and get a game going. Then come back here and tell us all about it.
