Last year, in the midsts of what seems like the biggest year for board gaming in a long while, a small review team started up in the darkest, hottest regions of The North. The Four of Us: Sam Gillespie, Kristof Schrader, Jessica James and Aeos James (No Relation) all teamed up to try and make the best board game review content in Australia.
We are the Board Game Knights. You may have seen our video reviews on the Dice Tower, You may have heard of our podcast Gamelot. You may have gamed with one or more of us. But most importantly, you probably haven’t.
The Dice Tower! Now with added Knights!
Last year, we started off making a couple of small video reviews, just using the resources we had on hand. We eventually attracted the notice of The Dice Tower, and started producing regular video reviews that gathered a small following. Some of our videos included the dynamic LCG Android Netrunner, the fun party game One Night Ultimate Werewolf, the tactical action of Summoner Wars, the fun-loving Takenoko and the quite frankly intimidating Twilight Struggle.
Alas tragedy befell the knights, and due to the harsh realities of life, Sam Gillespie had to move down to Brisbane, and that was the end of the board game knights video review segments.
A Werewolf on the prowl. Pitchforks are too expensive. The Knights make do with what they have.
This year however, we’re focusing on producing a monthly podcast called Gamelot, where we discuss the latest board games, and discuss various aspects of our hobby. Our first ever episode was released half-way through last year, but our newest episode was released just last week. In this episode we discuss some of our favourite titles from 2014, (and 2013. We were never very good at math) and talk about some games that we are looking forward to in 2015. We even discuss what happens when a popular comic artist collides with a simple but effective idea for a card game (some kittens may be harmed by this)
We eat ham and jam and spam. And then we game.
So check out our video catalogue, listen to our audio podcast and tell us what you think. We’re aiming to get a new episode out at the start of each month, and we’d love you guys and gals to be a part of it.
I'm Sam Gillespie, and I form one quarter of the Board Game Knights. We are a collection of board game enthusiasts who review board games in our spare time. You may have seen us on the Dice Tower Network, or heard of our podcast Gamelot.
