Android: Netrunner Store Championship Tournament Report – GUF

The last Netrunner Store Championship of 2016 in Brisbane was held at GUF on Saturday March 12th. Seeing as this was my last chance to obtain a store championship win, I was feeling the pressure. A few last minute no shows and out of town trips resulted in a 13 person tournament. Despite the relatively low turn-out, we rallied and fought hard for the title of Store Champ. But first, let’s look at the contenders’ weapons of choice.

chart(2) chart

The real surprise in this data is that NBN and Weyland were the most represented with 5 and 4 repeatedly. Near Earth Hub and Titan Transnational both had 2 players representing, but the rest only had one each. The initial surprise from seeing a relatively small HB number wears off after realising all 3 were Engineering the Future. A lone Jinteki Biotech represented the cloning mega corp.

In another surprise, Criminal had the strongest numbers on the runner side. Out of 6 total, 3 brought Leela and it was the only ID that had multiple representation. Anarch was 4 IDs strong but in another twist, none of them were Whizzard. Shapers had Kate and Jesminder representing. A lone Sunny stood in for the faction-less runners.

Having made the top cut on the high seat, I was cautiously excited for my last chance to obtain a regional bye. First round of the top 4 cut started with me paying my Noise against Blake’s NEH. I chose to play noise because I am not too keen to pit my own NEH against the aggressiveness of MaxX. Here is the video of how that went.

On the other table, Andru faced off against Duy, playing his Kate against ETF. Things didn’t pan out for poor Andru meaning I am playing against Duy in the winner’s bracket. That game can be found here.

With a bit of luck on my side, I managed to pull off a win to get to the final table. On the other table, Andru faced off against Blake. Unfortunate his Argus fell prey to MaxX’s early aggression. As a result, Duy and Blake had to battle for the spot on the final table. This game can be found here.

With Blake’s fast advance engine firing on all cylinders, it meant a rematch for us for the final. Watch the game(s) here.

So, I managed to pull off that win to earn myself a bye for the regional. Here are the decks I brought on the day.
